개요

뉴 사우스 웨일스 대학교 (The University of New South Wales, 약칭 UNSW 혹은 New South)는 오스트레일리아의 뉴사우스웨일스 주의 시드니에 위치한 호주의 대표적인 연구중심 대학이다. 
뉴 사우스 웨일스 대학은 같은 도시의 라이벌 시드니 대학과 함께 “그룹 오브 에이트 (Group of Eight, 오스트레일리아 내 8개 명문 대학 모임)”의 멤버이며 국제 우수 대학들의 연맹인 Universitas 21의 창립멤버이다.

1949년 설립된 이후 비교적 짧은 역사에도 불구하고 학술적인 성과, 교수법, 연구 실적등에 의해 오스트레일리아와 아시아태평양지구에서 최고의 명문 대학중 하나로 여겨져 오스트레일리아 국내 상위 고등학생들의 선호도가 높은 대학이다 
(2000년에는 호주 뉴사우스웨일스 주의 수능이라고 말할 수 있는 HSC에서 만점을 받은 22명의 고등학생중 17명이 뉴사우스웨일스대학을 선택하였고, 지금도 NSW주의 최상위권 수험생 중 절반 이상이 UNSW를 1순위 대학으로 선택하고 있다). 
뉴사우스웨일스 대학은 공과대학이 모체였던 만큼 대체 에너지, 나노 테크놀로지, IT, 화학공학, 건축 환경 등의 이공분야, 그리고 경영학, 사회 과학에서도 높은 명성을 가지고 있다. 
특히 이 학교의 경영학과 Australian School of Business는 호주의 경영학부 및 MBA과정에서 1위로 평가받고 있으며, 최근 한국의 KAIST MBA와 복수학위 협정을 맺는 등 아태 지역에서도 독보적인 위치를 자랑한다. 
또한 이 학교의 대체에너지 학과는 세계 1위 태양전지 업체인 Suntech Power의 설립자이자 회장인 Dr. Shi를 배출했고, 2009년에는 대한민국의 이명박 대통령이 방문하는 등 세계적으로 인정을 받고 있다.

대학 내 유학생의 재적률은 다른 오스트레일리아의 주요 대학들과 비교해서 높은데 특히 홍콩을 비롯한 아시아에서의 유학생의 수가 많은 편이다. 총 학생수는 40,000명 정도로 대학원생들의 비중이 높다. 
5,000명을 넘는 풀 타임의 스탭이 76개의 스쿨, 69개의 연구센터, 6개의 기관, 4개의 대학부속 병원, 8개의 학생 기숙사 및 그 외 많은 운영 기관이 이 대학에 소속하고 있다. 
2010년 QS사가 세계 500여개 대학을 대상으로 선정하는 세계대학랭킹(구 THES-QS World University Ranking)에서 46위에 랭크되었다. 
또한 예술, 영화학, 애니메이션, 무대디자인, 시나리오작가 및 전문가 등을 배출하는 Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama가 유명하다.

Entry Requirements

As a minimum, undergraduate applicants will need to have a qualification considered to be equivalent to Year 12 (completion of High School) in Australia. Some equivalent qualifications are listed below. 
Aside from approved High School qualifications UNSW will also consider a range of other academic qualifications for entry to its undergraduate programs - these are referred to as University Pathways.

Though there are no specific prerequisite requirements for entry to UNSW undergraduate degrees it will be assumed candidates have studied certain subject areas in their last year of high school (assumed knowledge).

International Undergraduate Direct Entry Requirements

The direct entry guide is a guide only and actual entry points may be higher than those indicated. 
Cut-off scores may be increased should demand exceed availability of places in the program.
