The school is located in Tokyo, the capital city of Japan. The nearest station is Shin-Okubo, the next stop of Shinjuku which is the most exciting area in Tokyo. It very convenient wherever you go. It only takes 10 mins to Shibuya and 25 mins to Akihabara. In addition, there are lots of restaurants and shops around KAI.
We at KAI have analyzed foreigner's Japanese language lives. We are researching and developing a program which will enable foreigners to cope with the various problems encountered in Japan and which will allow foreigners to acquire communication skills to solve problems by themselves, without losing their own original identity.
In particular, we believe first and foremost that being able to maintain high levels of motivation is an extremely important factor in order to raise the effects of student's study. We incorporate into our program planning and use in our class management psychological theories and techniques such as cross cultural understanding, exchange analysis, coaching, and communication skills etc.
KAI's ideology is 'to support student's self realization taking innovation as the keyword'. We constantly grasp the needs of our students and to this end we explore the necessary teaching methodologies and strive to implement innovative initiatives. Our educational goal is "to foster human resources operating in a Japanese speaking society" and we have established the following two issues as our pillars in order to achieve this goal.
As the employment of foreigners continues, in no time at all such foreign employees have come to be referred to as 'bridge personnel', a concept which implies that foreign employees are a bridge between Japan and the rest of the world. During the ten years that we have been contracted to teach Japanese to young engineers from the EU we have had a chance to reflect on the Japanese language skills required by engineers in particular. We have analyzed the Japanese language skills required for foreigners to live independently and the skills required in the workplace and we have developed and are implementing a unique program which combines work issue achievement and human relations in the workplace.
Simply being a foreigner 'who is good at Japanese' will not make you any different to a Japanese person. Rather it is important to acknowledge that not being Japanese in itself is of great added value. One of the reasons why Japanese companies employ foreigners is said to be to 'internationalize the company'. In reality internationalization is something that is obtained by overcoming numerous conflicts and dissentions. In our eyes foreigner employees should not be the stepping stone for this, rather foreigner employees should be human resources which have a more positive function within the company. It is possible for foreigners to properly communicate their own culture whilst understanding and respecting the sense of values of the Japanese and Japanese society. We at Kai are working to nurture such personnel.
The word 'kai' can be represented by several Chinese characters such as (open), (comfortable), (understanding), (world), (encounter), (ocean), (innovate). The word KAI epitomizes our desire 'for students to learn not only Japanese language skills but also communication methods for mutual understanding, in an environment in which students can meet and learn with people from all over the world', and the stance of our instructors and staff that 'we shall constantly develop and improve and provide students with better communication methods'.
