About Ireland
Over the past two decades, Ireland has become one of the top destinations for English language learning – more than 100,000 visitors come to Ireland every year to study English. With a young population, modern Ireland is a vibrant, creative and energetic place to be. In addition, the richness of the culture, the sense of history, the strength of the literary and musical tradition and the friendliness of the people make it an ideal destination for a language study holiday.
Ireland is one of Western Europe’s least populated, least industrialised and least spoiled countries. Lakes, mountains, spectacular cliffs, more than 2000 miles of coastline, deserted beaches and hundreds of islands make up the Irish landscape.
Situated on the western edge of Europe, Ireland is an island of about 4 million people. It is a small country - less than 500km from north to south, and less than 300km from east to west. In such a small country visitors can see a lot even on a short visit.
Ireland enjoys a relatively mild climate throughout the year. Average temperatures in summer are 16°C to 20°C. The coldest months of the year are January and February when daily temperatures range from 4°C to 8°C. Expect some rain at any time of the year. In winter, bring a warm sweater and a jacket. You should also bring a sweater in summer as the evenings can be cool.
