About Dundalk Institute of Technology

Dundalk Institute of Technology is a 90 acre campus situated between Dublin and Belfast (each approximately 50 miles away). The campus is 1/2 mile from the main Dublin Belfast road and 3 minutes drive from the M1 motorway to Dublin. Dublin Airport is a 35 minute drive by car. Dundalk is served by the Dublin Belfast Train corridor and Dundalk's Clarke Station is approximately a 20 minute walk (or 6 euro taxi ride) from the campus.

Entry Requirements

Outlines the standard minimum entry requirements for full time programmes (courses) in terms of Leaving Certificate results.

Higher Certificate Programmes (Level 6)

The standard minimum entry requirement for first year admission to Higher Certificate programmes is five passes in the Leaving Certificate including Mathematics and either Irish or English.

Hospitality Studies (Level 6) and Culinary Arts (Level 6)

The standard minimum entry requirement for first year admission to Hospitality Studies (Level 6) and Culinary Arts (Level 6) programmes is five passes in the Leaving Certificate including Irish or English.

Ordinary Degree Programmes (Level 7)

The standard minimum entry requirement for first year admission to three-year Bachelor Ordinary Degree, Level 7 programmes is six passes in the Leaving Certificate, including Mathematics and either English or Irish, and either one Grade C3 in a Higher Level paper, or an overall points total of 200.

Special entry requirements for Level 7 Engineering programmes

As well as the standard requirements, entrants must also achieve a minimum grade of C3 in Ordinary Level Mathematics.

Special entry requirements for BA in Communications in Creative Multimedia (DK762):

As well as the standard requirements, entrants must also achieve a minimum grade of OB3 or HD1 in Irish or English.

Special entry requirements for B Sc in Veterinary Nursing (DK784):

As well as the standard requirements, entrants must also achieve a minimum grade of HC3 in Biology or Agricultural Science.

Honours Degree Programmes (Level 8)

The standard minimum entry requirement for first year admission to Honours Degree programmes is six passes in the Leaving Certificate including Mathematics and either English or Irish, with at least Grade C3 in two Higher Level papers, together with at least Grade D3 in four Ordinary Level papers plus a minimumof 300 points. (The 300 points requirement does not apply to the BA (Hons) in Applied Music (DK860)).

Special entry requirements for B.A (Hons) in Public Relations (DK815) and BA (Hons) Humanities (DK861):

As well as the above requirements, entrants must also achieve a C3 in Higher Level English, or an A2 grade in Ordinary Level English.

Special entry requirements for B.Sc (Honours) in Computing in Games Development (DK820):

As well as the above requirements, entrants must also achieve a grade of B3 or higher in Ordinary Level Mathematics.

Special entry requirements for Nursing, Midwifery and Health & Physical Activitiy programmes:

As well as the above requirements, entrants must also achieve a pass in a Laboratory Science subject.
